Loop lengte. .......630mm
Kruit .....S335

Nosler custom competition 155gr
S335 ....38gr
Avg...2342 fps

S335..40gr
Avg.....2475.33 fps

Dop maak. ..pmp
H2o dop.......56 grn
Slagdop.....Winchester std
Tpl.............nosler cc..74.1mm ( You only have +-2.1mm of the bullet shank (exc boat tail) in the neck- you need to reduce your COL that buulet is only just hanging in there by it;s fingernails)
Kriek. .......73 8mm (This is a good COL as you have +- 7.0mm of the shank in the neck)
Magesyn kas lengte. ..75mm
Kruit .....S335

Nosler custom competition 155gr
S335 ....38gr
Avg...2342 fps
Loop lengte. .......630mm ( that is a rather odd barrel length - you sure ?)

S335..40gr
Avg.....2475.33 fps ( Is this the latest batch of S335 with -2% deviation ? It's performing so poorly you may as well be shooting S355. This load has not even reached 40 000 psi yet and will be almost impossible to predict an accurate node as the burn rate will go up substantially with the higher pressure)

Kriek koeëls 155gr
S335 ...38gr
Avg.......2357 fps

S335.....40gr
Avg.....2526.33 fps (Once again your pressure is only just touching 40 000 psi and your burn rate is so low it may as well be S355)
I would suggest you shoot 42.5 grains of this batch with both bullets and come back with velocities - only then can we make some sort of accurate prediction once we assess the burn rate at higher pressure.
And shorten the COL on Noslers.

I have assumed that you using a normal chrony at 5 meters.
Double check your chrony readings with another chrony if possible.
Make sure your chrony's batteries are in good condition and dont shoot in the shade.

Dankie ;D

I have just spoken to him
The Tpl given is the max Tpl on that specific bullet...but both of them were only loaded to 72mm tpl
Ok Barrel length at 613mm ..just over 24.1"
That was my fault damn phone with its auto corect. .
Chrony was at 5m ...full sunshine with a brand new battery.
My apologies for the wrong info
He will go and shoot the 42.5gn over the weekend
The S335 is the latest batch with-2 variation

This latest batch of S335 is piss poor.
-2% my arse.
I tried to help a friend load some 130 grain TTSX in his 308 Win the other day and we ended up with a heavily compressed load just to get to the 50 000 psi node.
At 72.00mm I would still not be happy with the seating depth on the 155 gn custom competition.
I would make it at least 70.5mm.

But go ahead and shoot the 42.5 grain load with this batch and lets where the figures are at.

Bugger, and I’ve bought a few tins of these. I’ve also started load development with this and for the life of me I can’t get QL to play along. Would you mind sharing your QL variables you’re using?

Thanks Dale, I suspect my main issue was that I was too close to the lands and ended up with pressure spikes. I’ve done up a new batch so will test tomorrow and start a new thread.

PMP doppe
CCI 200 primer
H2O - 56gn
Loop lengte - 613mm
Max TPL Nosler - 74.1mm
Max TPL Kriek - 73.8mm
COL Nosler CC 155gn - 70.5mm
COL Kriek 155gn - 70.25mm
Kruit- S335 (-2%)
Magasyn kas - 75.0mm
Lading - 42.5gn
Gem Spoed Kriek - 2666fps
Gem Spoed Nosler - 2674fps

Groete

155 grain Nosler CC
Low pressure node
42.1 grain for 2652 fps -15 fps on the chrony
There is a max pressure node at 2845 fps - 15 fps on the chrony but you will have to work up to this one as I suspect your burn rate is going to increase further as your pressure goes up.
Start at 44.5 grains and check your speed.
Do not exceed 2845 fps
Will be a slightly compressed load.

Kriek 155 grain
41.7 to 41.9 grains
2637 - 15 fps on the chrony
48960 psi
You already at 99% case fill beacuse of your COL with this bullet so you can not reach the next node without a heavily compressed load.
What is your jump to the rifling with your 70.25 COL ?

This batch of S335 is a real underperformer in your rifle and with your components.

Thanks Dale

What is your jump to the rifling with your 70.25 COL ? - That would be 3.55mm

Dale & Nella, no feedback from my side yet. Have not been to the range to test the new loads.

Just on the latest batch of S335, seems to be the worst ever...........

Was vandag by die baan.

onthou net as jy nou jou tpl gaan verander gaan jy lading moet oordoen.

Ek gaan nou Winchester doppe gebruik.

Punt - 155gn Kriek
Winchester doppe
CCI 200 primer
H2O - 57.71gn gemiddeld
Loop lengte - 613mm
TPL - 72.3mm
Kruit- S335 (-2%)
Lading - 42.0gn
Gem Spoed - 2621fps

Punt - 155gn Nosler CC
Winchester doppe
CCI 200 primer
H2O - 57.71gn gemiddeld
Loop lengte - 613mm
TPL - 70.5mm
Kruit- S335 (-2%)
Lading - 42.0gn
Gem Spoed - 2592fps

By voorbaat baie dankie.

You where not far off the node with 42.0 grains and your grouping should have been good.

Dale, my 308 is still giving me a headache. So I thought just maybe my previous load vs speed data I've supplied were a bit off - garbage in garbage out theory.

I have now tried again in the most perfect conditions (for the crony) with very accurate loads (triple checked) to get better load vs speed readings. I've done these using the 155gn Nosler bullets. All other data stayed the same.

43.1gn - 2664 (5m Crony)
42.6gn - 2645 (5m Crony)

Would these make any significant impact on your calculations?

Both of these loads are very close to node 5 ( The 43.1 grain load slightly faster and the 42.6 grain load slightly slower) so both of these loads should have given you quite acceptable acccuracy.

Your exact accurate load to be on the node is 42.8 grains for 2671 fps - 15fps on the chrony
48000 psi
92.7% case fill.

Thanks again Dale. I will try as suggested.

Funny enough, the other 2 loads grouped worse that I have hoped for.
