All residents who are in possession of a firearm of any shape or measure is requested by the order of the SA police force to go to their nearest police station and hand in their firearm for inspection.1
Greenwood Park SAPS has issued a notice for firearm holders to report to Greenwood Park SAPS’ designated firearms officer, Warrant Officer Makhanya and produce their firearm for inspection together with their licence and competency certificate.
Firearm holders who live in Avoca Hills, Red Hill, Effingham Heights, Avoca, Greenwood Park, River Horse Valley, Springfield Park, Sea Cow Lake, Kenville, Umgeni Park, Rose Hill, Glen Anil,Glen Hills, Quarry Heights who have not had their firearms inspected by Greenwood Park SAPS are requested to do so immediately.
Greenwood Park SAPS’ communications officer, Warrant Officer Leon Audh also advised on how to go about dealing with a firearm of a deceased person. “The firearm can be handed in at Greenwood Park SAPS for destruction. The firearm can also be handed over to a licensed firearm dealer for sale purposes or you can relicense following the normal licensing procedure,” he advised.
Audh went on to state that if one is in possession of a legal firearm it should always be kept in a wall mounted safe when not in use and should not be exposed to the public when in possession.
“We also urge the community at large that should anyone be in possession of an unlicensed firearm to please hand that firearm in for destruction at the police station. Should you have any queries or questions regarding your firearm or to confirm if the area you live in falls within the Greenwood Park SAPS precinct, please do not hesitate to contact (D.F.O) W/O S.E Makhanya on 072 491 3685,” he added.
