Ek sou baie mooi na die lope kyk, verwal wat wanddikte aan betref, voor ek enige vorm van 16-boor ammunisie in hom probeer skiet. Dit lyk of iemand (waarskynlik `n hele paar iemands) redelik ernstig aan hom gewerk het. Ek sien swyskolle - nooit `n goeie teken nie. Die hane "match" nie en algemene kondisie is maar power.

Dit lyk baie soos `n Lefaucheaux tipe aksie. As dit is, is hierdie `n laat 1860's/vroeg 1870's model.

Die geweer is Duits van oorsprong, en ek vermoed die feit dat die inskripsies al dof is van al die gebuff en geskuur, die lisensieowerhede, in hulle wysheid, oortuig het dat hierdie `n Engelse geweer is.

"joh. erhart rk hofluchgenmac ger in marburg 4/D" - Johann Erhart was die maker (of ten minste die maker wie se naam op hom verskyn), Marburg is `n stad in Duitsland en die ander woord is "hofbuchsenmacher". Dit beteken dat Erhardt op een of ander stadium `n roer gemaak het vir een of ander koninklike, waarskynlik nog tydens die ryk van Wilhelm I.

"Hofbüchsenmacher" beteken dat hy onder andere gewere vir die paleis gebou het. Dit onderstreep effektief net dat hy goeie gehalte lewer. Dit sê nie noodwendig dat hierdie haelgeweer aan n adelike behoort het nie.
