Hi Almal

Groete
Bartho

Hi all

My apologies if this is a long story.

I missed the whole hunting season due to work. I made contact with roughly 20 game farms/outfitters for a last minute hunt in the Eastern/Western Cape. The reply from Rob was different to the rest and actually "refreshing"...

As mentioned in previous posts, the accommodation and extras are above the prices that we normally pay for a biltong hunt. The experience is worth it, and some of the cost can be split if there are more hunters (I was on my own).
Upon arrival at the lodge, I could immediately see that it is going to be special. The staff ensured that I received the 5 star treatment, and the food is fantastic (local butcher and chef using local products).

I was there to hunt a few Kudus, and I was not disappointed. We searched during early mornings and late afternoons, and I saw Kudus every time. I also wanted Springbok even though they are a bit of a challenge on this farm, it was good exposure for long distance shooting.

The PH, Chris du Plessis was extremely patient with me. I shot the first kudu with my old faithful 30-06 loaded with a Titan bulllet(Titan bullets perform as advertised). I have a newly acquired 260 Reminton with a new Arken scope that I had to bond with. Chris took me to the plains where the springbok and impala is plentiful. I was limited on time to obtain accurate ballistic data for the 260, so I missed a few shots trying to find the sweet spot of my new rifle and scope. Chris helped me and eventually the 260 performed as expected. I shot 2 springbok which dropped in their tracks, and during the final morning I was blessed with a Kudu bull that also dropped in its tracks due to the 260...

Royal Karoo was by far the best hunting experience I have had in the last four years. I paid more than what I would usually pay for accommodation etc., but it was worth it (animal prices are below average). I was never made to feel like it's all about hunting as many animals as you can, and Chris went out of his way to help me get to know my new rifle.

I would highly recommend Royal Karoo for a hunting trip. The farm is beautiful, the Kudus are plentiful, and experience is absolutely amazing.

I am already planning my next trip and I will take my wife along for the journey.

Cheers
