QL's view on the best propellants to use with your short barrel. Look at fill and burn %. N560 is good and S365 is a better choice.

I would risk a guess that the barrel is not a shooter. A good barrel should be able to show you that it wants to shoot in 20 shots or less when using a powder/bullet combo which should be working. When you run through 100-200 rounds and struggle to get good groups with different bullets something else is wrong.

Maybe time to go back to the gunsmith.

Ok, so I think we are now close to a workable load,

The below were shot with 85.5gr Bergers, I think the 70, 75, and 80 grainers are not for this fa.

So based on the 2 loads, what do you guys in the know suggest I do now to select the group and refine to get it tighter?

Using Magnun Primers made a significant difference in the consistency and reducing the standard deviation.

Also got a smaller neck bushing today, as I feel the neck when mandrel is a bit "lose".

The speeds as per my Garmin Xero,

- 40.1 grain load, Avg 2,777 and Standard Deviation 7.5
- 39.8 grain load, Avg 2,761 and Standard Deviation 27.6

I would like to push to get some more out of the gun, but know the 18" barrel on a 85.5gr bullet will be a factor.

QL calcs give the following. The speed shown is where the nodes are and should be what you want to achieve.

Node 7 40,5gr = 2810fps Your 40,1gr load shows promise.
Node6 1/2 41,8gr = 2910fps
Node 6 42,8gr = 2988fps Pressure calculates at 59K psi (max 62K psi)
if you want to try Node 6 do that judiciously and watch for pressure signs. Gradually ease up to the recommended charge and check the speed. Higher pressure sometimes causes faster burn rates.

Propellant burn rate is from 93 to 96%. N560 is one of the better propellant choices, even if not giving a 100% burn.

Thanks a mill, will definitely try, as I would, like to get to 2900fps and with a decent group.

Am I correct in saying faster burn rate will help with the consistency due to the case fill capacity being lower that optimal?

You are not going to get speed with a faster burning propellant. Pressure might just be too high. Look at the QL suggestions below. N560 is way up for performance. You have already seen the better groups.

Ok so this was today's last test based on the recommendations, sticking with the N560 and 85.5gr Bergers.

I think mentally I am now shooting 2 or 3 shots and then f*&^e it up due to the anxiety of wanting this gun to shoot well.

Based on the below, which group do you recommend I now stick with and do I tweak, and how, to try and get it tighter?

Try 41.6gr as 41.4 and 41.8gr both gave reasonable groups. The only other suggestion I have is that you ask another proficient shooter to shoot a group. This will hopefully give clarity as to your role in the exercise. If that does not show promise I would have the rifle checked over and especially the crown area.

Will need to find a proficient shooter, as I am new in the rifle shooting, been sport shooting my whole life, so dont know proficient long gun shooters, unless I hijack someone at a range

I Would try between 40,1 and 40,5.. As Tri pod mentioned earlier. The 40.1 showed promise, and the 40,5 as per QL for me is the best of the last loads.. I assume this is 100m groups..?

It might show that you have a tight chamber and to tight a fit between chamber and the necks

Just to add my 2cents here, try the 40.5gr load without the bipod on a normal xbag.

Do you have a silencer on the rifle?
