A custom rig like that should group from the start. Will put money on the barrel being the problem!!!!
Bad barrel will keep you chasing your tail..

Thanks will do that over the weekend.

Yes I have a Warrior silencer on the gun.

Do you have a silencer on the rifle?

Thanks, so when we say the barrel is the problem, what does that mean in terms of what could be wrong with the barrel?

Herewith the brass info,
As mentioned Peterson brass
Fired cases, 10 measured, averaged neck outside diameter 0.254"

Resized cases, all full length resized with LE Wilson die and 248 Bushing and averaged resized case neck outside diameter 0.251"

All cases are also run through a LE Wilson Mandrel for 22.

The measurement you need is the OD of a fired case and the OD of a loaded round. This will show if you have enough clearance ;)

That is tight! Even allowing for 1/2 thou springbacck, 0.0015" clearance around the neck is not nearly enough in my opinion. A little bit of dirt or carbon buildup will interfere with bullet release. If the chamber neck diameter is less than SAAMI spec of 0.257" you need thin neckwall brass or neckturn. Did the the person that chambered the rifle let you know to neckturn?

Be that as it may, the above will give you poor ES/SD, but not necessarily bad grouping at short range. So, my bet is either operator error or bad barrel.

As to what can be wrong with the barrel?
Inconsistent bore size. Worst is an increase of bore size towards the muzzle.
Bore not straight.
Different groove depth.
Grooves not deep enough
Sharp edges and burrs that damage the bullet.
Off-center bore.
Off-center chamber
Off-axis chamber
Neck clearance not enough.

And that is just what I can think of that will increase the size of random distribution.

Thanks Arnold, Yes loaded round OD...
Get some one to turn the necks down on 10 cases to test, shoot for at least 0.250" loaded round OD.

@JF som dit korrek op.

My 2c.

Beste.

I agree with the statements everyone else made, but I have also seen a silencer making huge differences on groups. It might be worth it to shoot the rifle over an x-bag without a silencer. Normally we measure speed without the silencer for QL purposes.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated.

This is really turning out to be a problematic and traumatic event... I will try all the suggestions and see if it gets any better.

Update:

I contacted Frans and provided him with a view of all the powders and bullets and weights tested and all the various shot groups. He concurred that this is not normal and immediately offered to replace the barrel.

So, big kudos to him for doing a replacement barrel no questions asked.

So new barrel fitted to the gun today, and hopefully now we are sorted.

Would appreciate if someone can give me some nodes based on the below,
20" barrel 1.8 twist
Powder Vihtavouri N560
Berger 75gr VLD
Hornady ELD X 80gr
Berger 85.5gr LR Hybrid Target

Thanks a mill

Glad they changed the barrel. Hope it shoots like it should!

Is there a specific reason why you settled on a 20" barrel?

Largely cause I want a compact rifle that is easy to manipulate with a suppressor.

Thought I would give an update post the barrel replacement.

All I can say is I am happy as chips and really enjoy the rifle now.

I am happy to report the rifle now shoots consistent 5 shot groups of 0.53" to 0.45" and with an mean radius of 0.234"

With H4350 and 75gr Bergers the speeds is around 3250fps.

Getting 3250fps with a 20 inch barrel makes QL calculate something like 65K psi.

Interesting, and the reason I say that is as per the below image, this gives a different view.

There were also no pressure signs on the primers and no stickiness on the bolt at all.

But I am open to comments / feedback as to where I can be misaligned.

Correct, I am just showing based on the data and the load, there is definitely a difference based on the 65k PSI comment, what this is showing in the image and the actuals I have from the gun.

When you say what QL predicted meaning the image or the actual performance I shared?

This is from Apex load, alot closer on the speed and my actuals.
