What happened to the old days, when you sent animals to control or to your nearest abattoir, you were paid for your fifth quarter - skin, avaal and tongue, and got charged a slaughter fee. Now the tail is also cut off your carcass before you get the weight. Tongue and tail are roughly 3kg (R69.00) avaal of beast (R600.00) skin (R150.00). So before the meat is sold, income already nearly R820. Now the mark up stage. We are always told that the offcuts are sold at a cheaper price than the carcass price - bull sh.t. Today I had to buy a flank from the abattoir next door, it cost me R23.50 / kg. I am only getting R23.25 / kg for C grade cattle. Just wanted to get this off my chest.

Die ander ding was ook kop uitsteek is dat boere ook mal slaghuis en supermark pryse vra as jy direk by hom koop.    Jammer manne ---dan moet Suid Afrika eerder weer skaap en ander vleis invoer wat goedkoper is.

Zach, around here the farmers sell privately at a very reasonable price. Roughly the slaughter price plus R100 - R150 per sheep.
I would love to start a small on farm abattoir and sell 1/2 or whole sheep, mutton / lamb, but need the right person to run it.

Wayne, all our animals are going to the abattoir in Camebridge.  We did sell to other places and got a hidding. 5 days and youve got your money.

Zack my buurman het n slagpale op sy plaas en iemand het hom gaan aangee by dep. Jy sal nie glo hoeveel stront het hy gehad nie. Sy slaghuis is netjies en skoner as baie slaghuise waarin ek al was. Gelukkig vir hom het hy van die begin af reg begin bou en als. Hulle wou hom toe maak maar hyt gewen. Glo hy doen te sleg nie maar hy maak nie baie geld nie. Al sy skaap gaan Oos Londen, Johannesburg, George ens. Die probleem is die mense koop net soveel vleis. As hy gebadget het vir R800 se vleis dan koop hy net vir R800, nie soos met die petrol prys as hy opgaan dan sit hulle by nie. Wat hom baie help is as mense R500 sin soek dan maak hy hulle pakke so op vir hulle. Die ding is om genoeg mense te kry wat koop

As jou buurman se prys en produk reg is sal hy verseker op die lang termyn wen.  Dis soos enige nuwe besigheid.  Jy moet kliente werf en dan jou groot uitdaging---jy moet hulle behou.  Dis waar eerlikheid en 'n goeie produk teen die regte prys inkom.
Sterkte aan hom---ek glo hy is op die regte pad.
