Forgiveness... can you define it?

When I started out in Target archery, and later in Bowhunting, people often referred to a setup being very "forgiving" - I never really could figure out what that meant, and now, having to explain to new archers all about it, I had to draw myself a picture...

I think what makes it even more difficult is that we are currently inundated with bows of a certain spcification that is decidedly not forgiving, but that is shooting extremely well and extremely easy?
