Safari & Outdoor DGS - 2014 Post Season Shoot 25 Oktober
Hi there all big calibre shooters and friends!!
We would like to inform you that the date has been set for the next Safari & Outdoor Dangerous Game Shoot! Please accept this e-mail as your formal invitation. Also, please do not hesitate to invite friends that are not yet on our list, meeting new enthusiasts is always a pleasure. The gathering of like-minded individuals that share a passion for large calibers in a social and fun setting is the goal of our shoot.
The event will be held on the 25th of October at the Premier Shooting Club about 40min drive from Safari & Outdoor in Pretoria, towards Cullinan in the Gauteng Province of South Africa- a map and GPS co-ordinates are attached.
The goal of this day is once again to enjoy a day out in the open, practicing the sport we love amongst friends and to have as much fun as possible, whilst also getting to know your Dangerous Game Rifle(s) thoroughly. Over the last few years, we have seen some interesting things on the range that includes misfires, accidental discharges and malfunctioning firearms. On a day like this, you truly test your own rifle as well as your equipment and capabilities in the closest possible encounter other than reality. Together with the shoots that the Big Bore Association of SA (BASA) hosts, this is the kind of day that helps you prepare for the hunt of a lifetime, or, to keep the dream of “that” hunt, alive.
To honor the guys that performed well on our shoot, the top 10 competitors of the day will be announced alphabetically and they will also receive equal prizes. The ranking of all participants will be made available as always when we distribute the score sheets in the week after the DGS shoot. Over the last 3 and a half years a large amount of interest has developed in the “lucky draw” part of the prize giving and we shall continue with this. The lucky draw allows competitors who have not done so well to also stand a chance of winning a big prize, the success of the lucky draw is really how the day is measured. There are once again fantastic lucky draw prizes up for grabs on the day, please note you need to be present to claim a prize. We are proud to announce that over the last 6x shoots we gave away in excess of R250 000 worth of prizes!! A very big thanks in advance to all our sponsors, without you guys the DGS will not be the great event that it is at the moment.
We are also very proud to announce that we are competing this year in the fourth International Big Game Rifle Shoot. This year the shoot is held in Melbourne, Australia, and 5x of us are attending the shoot representing South Africa and of course, Safari & Outdoor. Some of you will remember the Post-Season shoot in 2012 where Safari & Outdoor hosted the 3rd International Big Game Rifle Shoot here in South Africa with the Australian team competing here and also did very well! Hopefully we can show the Aussies we can compete on their soil just as well as they did here!
Last piece of news, we will be launching the first “Safari & Outdoor DGS Cape” this year. The date is set for 8 November and also promises to be a great event!
The DGS Rifle Competition:
The course of fire will be announced on the day during the safety briefieng and will be a mixture of static and moving targets at varying distances. You will need a minimum of 18x shots to complete the competition. Also bring extra ammunition for the unforeseen. Safari and Outdoor will once again make a Heym 470 NE double rifle available for use at one of the ranges (moving target) on the day; ammunition will be available at a nominal fee of R100 per shot.
Classes:
Minimum calibre of .366 (9.3mm) and also no restrictions on sights/scopes. You can bring as many calibres as you want, but only one calibre(rifle) will be allowed to complete a range. You can only shoot each range once. Please note that there will be a penalty system that will apply per calibre used on each range. Sights will not be penalised as iron sights will generally be more suited to the course on the day. The penalty allocation will be our handicap system that will level out the playing field. Remember that this is a Dangerous Game Shoot, and in the spirit with which we are hosting these events, please use sufficient loads and bullet weights. No silencers allowed.
Penalty System:
You will compete on a range in one of four classes: 9,3-375 ; 404-416 ; 458 – 474 ; 500 and bigger.
The smaller the calibre, the higher the penalty value. The penalty system has been designed to be as fair as possible, used all across the globe by numerous organisations with huge success, as well as at our last two shoots in March and October last year.
Costs:
The cost of the day will be R200 per entry.
Entries, Arrival and start of shoot:
Please note: Entries (payments) are done before hand, either in the shop or via email and EFT, thus not slowing down proceedings on the morning of the shoot. Please note NO ENTRIES on the day! This is simply to speed up the process so please understand...
The safety briefing will be at 7h30am sharp and shooting will start at 8am. Prize giving will be at 3pm.
Food:
Each shooter will be responsible for his own meal after the shoot. We will be providing fires for braaing purposes. First fires will be lit at 11am. During the day extra cold drinks, water, snacks and Boerewors Rolls will be for sale at the club house. Your own snacks for the day are more than welcome. Also remember to bring a chair.
Alcohol….
As always, safety is our number one priority on the day. After the shoot we will most definitely enjoy a few cold ones, but before or during the shoot NO alcohol is permitted on the range. Please bring your own cool box. Once we put the gun bags in the car, cool boxes are more than welcome!
Please accept this invitation by emailing your Proof of Payment to dgs@so.co.za to ensure your name is on our list, payments are also welcome at the shop via card or cash.

Veiligheid eerste manne!
