Dagse Menerens

www.eshepherd.biz/15512.html

Dankie

"Hi all

FYI, I have just had a call from a chap called Johannes van Dyk - his wife is Mariette and they are marketing a new device called an 'E-shepherd' collar.  His email is mwjotha@mtnloaded.co.za.

See www.eshepherd.biz  (not the .co.uk website - that's a different eshepherd)

This collar is worn by the sheep (ration of 1:10 in flock) and works by emitting ultra-sound waves which deter any attacking predator (triggered by erratic movement I gather) - there is also a strobe light effect, a further detterent.  There is a trial taking place and they are having success it seems.  If the attacker persists the collar will lengthen the time of the sound emitted.

The cost is R580 per collar.  It seems like a good non-lethal device, let's hope it is a great success. Their marketing line is 'sending the predator back to nature' or along those lines, which is really in the right direction.

There will apparently be articles coming out in Landbou etc next month - but more in depth articles will be published once the trials are completed by mid-May.  Watch that space or contact them directly for more info.

Anything that doesn't use poison or a gin-trap must be given full attention and a chance to prove its effectiveness.

Thanks

Kind regards"
